When Hyatt and Concord Hospitality Enterprises decided to develop a new hotel property at One Exchange Place, the 92-year-old site of the former First National Bank of Jersey City, they knew that they were taking on a highly prominent project. The new hotel, Hyatt House Jersey City, needed to bring something new and inviting to Jersey City’s downtown waterfront. They chose to work with OpenAire to create a customized retractable enclosure for Hyatt House’s rooftop lounge, which would become the crowning feature to the hotel’s 12 floors and 248 rooms of inviting accommodations.
OpenAire’s expert team developed, built and installed a 3,520-square-foot retractable glass enclosure that gives Hyatt House’s terrace lounge panoramic views of New Jersey and New York City all year long. This spectacular enclosure measures 110 feet long and over 32 feet wide, big enough for events and parties of all sizes. It is built in three telescoping sections, which can open and close at the touch of a button to adapt to the weather outside. On sunny days, two of the roof sections retract under the third, exposing the lounge completely to the open skies and fresh air. In cold or inclement weather, the roof and walls still provide excellent views of the Manhattan skyline across the Hudson River, but keep guests comfortable in a temperature-controlled environment that is usable even on the coldest days of winter. It is an ideal place to enjoy great food and drinks while experiencing the sights and sounds of New Jersey.
Hyatt, Concord Hospitality, and OpenAire are all excited to unveil this unique and attractive venue, which is bringing new life and business to the heart of Jersey City. With its one-of-a-kind combination of classical architecture, modern designs and exceptional rooftop views, the Hyatt House is sure to become a staple destination in Jersey City for years to come.
