Mesquite Natatorium — Dallas College Eastfield Campus

The Mesquite Natatorium, a 13,580-square-foot aquatic facility at Dallas College’s Eastfield Campus, is the product of a partnership between Dallas College, the City of Mesquite, and Mesquite ISD. Opened in February 2024 following a $9.7-million renovation, the facility now serves as the first MISD-COM Aquatics Center, hosting swim team practices, competitive meets, and community swim lessons for residents of all ages.

At the heart of the natatorium’s design is its transparent OpenAire aluminum enclosure, featuring a retractable roof and operable wall panels. This all-aluminum structure allows the facility to function as a fully enclosed, climate-controlled pool during cold or wet weather, then open completely on pleasant days to deliver a true outdoor swimming experience — all without swimmers ever leaving the water. The lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminum frame withstands the demanding humidity and chemical environment of an aquatics facility while requiring minimal long-term maintenance, and its glass and polycarbonate glazing floods the natatorium with natural light year-round.

This flexibility gives Mesquite ISD and the City of Mesquite a single facility that performs like two: an energy-efficient indoor venue when the elements demand it, and an open-air pool when they don’t — extending usability across every season and supporting everything from competitive swim meets to recreational family swim time.

Mesquite Mayor Daniel Alemán Jr. called the natatorium “a direct reflection of the community partnership behind it”, noting the significance of expanding public pool access at a time when many U.S. cities are closing theirs due to funding pressures.
