Opening Epic Waters’ roof to the Sky with a Huge Unveiling Event

Members of our OpenAire team were thrilled to give the City of Grand Prairie and the surrounding Dallas-Fort Worth area a sneak peek of the massive new retractable roof covering Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark in action on Tuesday, October 3. Many media representatives gathered inside Epic Waters’ huge 62,000-square-foot enclosure, surrounded by a wide variety of one-of-a-kind water slides and other thrilling attractions from WhiteWater West that will soon be open to the public, to see the record-breaking structure let in the outdoor air after months of development. Nancy Patterson, Business Development and Design at OpenAie, joined with Rick Coleman, Sr., Vice President at American Resort Management; Steve Brinkel, VP of Parks and Recreation Division at WhiteWater West; and Rick Herold, Director of Parks, Arts and Recreation Department at Grand Prairie; to watch as Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen pulled the enclosure’s large control switch and, for the first time, opened Epic Waters’ 32 curved roof panels to the sky above. Participants were amazed as daylight and fresh air flooded the huge space.

Experience this sneak peek for yourself in this drone video. NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth also gave thousands of viewers a front-row look at the event with their exciting coverage.

Epic Waters will open to the public later in 2017, and will cover a total of 80,000 square feet, including an 18,000-square-foot outdoor section. The 62,000-square-foot indoor section will set a record for the largest indoor waterpark under a single custom curved retractable roof in the United States. It will also be one of the first attractions to open in the Epic Grand Central’s huge 172-acre indoor/outdoor recreation complex. Thanks to its translucent operable roof panels, Epic Waters will be able to operate year-round, giving guests the perfect aquatic conditions whatever the weather outside. This major unveiling event is sure to be only the first of many epic experiences at Epic Waters and Epic Grand Central.
