Hockessin Athletic Club
Hockessin, DE
The Hockessin Athletic Club was developed with a unique concept in mind. The owners wanted to move away from the traditional health club aquatic venue. They wanted something new that would set them apart and offer a real competitive advantage.
The 120 ft x 146 ft free-standing OpenAire building features a maintenance-free, thermally-broken aluminum frame designed to L/180 deflection criteria.
The retractable roof opens effortlessly with the push of a button. While just under 50% of the roof is retractable, sliding glass doors and large overhead doors allow the sidewalls to open more than 50% of the way, making it a virtual outdoor facility during the summer months and the next best thing during cooler weather. … Closing the roof and doors during inclement weather and cold winter months allows uninterrupted, revenue producing water park fun for the club’s clients.
“We opened the Hockessin Athletic Club on June 10th, 2007 and have been very excited about the community’s response. The four pools under the OpenAire have been a major part of our success. Our members and especially their children rave about them and the outstanding environment that has been created. I’ve been told on many occasions that a visit to the club is like going on a cruise ship. I also like the fact that I don’t need lights during the day, and I won’t have to condition the OpenAire space until October or November which is a huge savings over a traditional indoor pool facility. We love our OpenAire!!!!“, Bob Carpenter, President, Hockessin Athletic Club, Hockessin, DE
The result is an extraordinary facility that combines traditional aquatic elements with waterpark features, all under an amazing all glazed building with a retractable roof. The Hockessin Athletic Club offers its clients the ability to come for a work out or to play in a bright airy environment that is sure to keep them returning for more.
