Deep in Lower Saxony, far from any tropical coastline, Tropicana Waterpark set out to create something impossible: a genuine tropical escape, rain, shine, or snow. OpenAire developed the perfect ambiance with a 32m x 55m retractable polycarbonate roof , built for a private client sitting on a steel supported structure.

The roof’s 16 individual panels stow away completely, letting the resort’s tropical zone open fully to the outdoors in summer — while in winter, guests stay warm and dry inside true tropical spaces, even as snow falls just beyond the glass. This double-sloped, top-down opening skylight gives Tropicana full environmental control, creating tropical Germany regardless of the weather outside.
