Retractable Roofs & Enclosures Bring New Life to Historic Locations
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Thousands of unique buildings have stood the test of time for decades or even centuries and are now revered as historic locations. Of course, the same age that made them iconic has also left many of them in need of maintenance or renovations, especially if the buildings were not maintained consistently throughout their lives. As more historic properties are redeveloped or placed on the real estate market, it is becoming necessary for owners to renovate more of their older properties. OpenAire can offer an ideal solution for these projects. Our custom retractable enclosures bring new life to historic locations by letting in dynamic sunlight and fresh air, all while staying faithful to the venues’ original designs and atmospheres. OpenAire’s techniques have been highly successful in historic locations internationally.
Some of OpenAire’s retractable solutions for historic venues include: RH Gallery in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighbourhood, located in an iconic 58,000-sq. ft. building that dates back to the early 20th Century. OpenAire created an innovative 44 by 44-foot pyramid skylight over the venue’s courtyard, adding year-round sunshine and bold architectural styling to RH Gallery’s café seating while staying true to the location’s classical roots.
Luzhniki Olympic Complex in Moscow, Russia is now under renovation as OpenAire works to build an incredible 75,000 sq. ft. retractable skylight for the monumental arena’s new Aquapark facility. Luzhniki has been one of the world’s largest sports complexes since opening in 1956; the new Aquapark will add an outdoor-style pool that can operate throughout Moscow’s bitter winters and continue Luzhniki’s ambitious legacy.
Most recently, OpenAire has made significant progress on a restoration project for the 91-year-old Plunge swimming pool in Belmont Park, San Diego; building a curved, 29,000-sq. ft. enclosure with 10 large retractable roof panels for one of the city’s oldest indoor swimming pools. The Plunge closed in 2016 for extensive repairs because of corrosion in its framing and other moisture damage. OpenAire’s aluminum-framed enclosure will solve this issue with its natural corrosion resistance, as well as its ability to vent pool chemicals naturally when opened. On top of all this, its glazed panels will let swimmers enjoy the beautiful pool in vibrant sunshine like never before.
These are only some of the examples of how OpenAire’s retractable solutions can revitalize venues of any age.
