Swimming pools can be dangerous if you do not adhere to the safety rules. In order to make certain that your whole family is safe and has a great time, here are a few of the most important rules to keep in mind before jumping in:

Listen to the Lifeguard

Lifeguards are there to protect you. Therefore, if they provide you with an instruction, it is imperative that you listen. Always teach your children how important it is to listen to what the lifeguard tells them – it could save their life one day!

Walk, Do Not Run

This one seems rather obvious and, as adults, few of us would ever consider running on the pool deck for fear of slipping and getting injured. However, kids are far less likely to realize how dangerous running near the pool can be. Emphasize this rule every time you are going to visit your local swimming pool!

Stay Away if Sick

If you are feeling a bit ill, you may think that a trip to the pool could help to lift your spirits. However, it is so easy to spread germs this way. Rather, steer clear of the pool if you think you may be contagious.

Supervision is Essential

Even if your local pool has a lifeguard, it is of the utmost importance that you still keep a watchful eye on your children. This is especially true if the pool is crowded. Accidents can happen – even if your kid is a strong, experienced swimmer.

Last but not least, be sure to find a swimming pool that is enclosed by a retractable roof system. That way, you can enjoy lots of safe, family fun all year round regardless of what the weather looks like outside.
