Tips for Improving Your Swim Style and Speed
Have you recently adopted swimming in your workout routine? Perhaps you are an experienced swimmer simply looking to up your game? Either way, we have some expert tips to share to help you see a notable improvement in your swim style and speed.
Visit the Pool as Often as Possible
As with most things in life, practice makes perfect. You are unlikely to see results if you are only able to visit your health club’s swimming pool once a week. Make an effort to go at least four times a week and swim as many laps as you can in 30 minutes.
Good Gear is Everything
You are only as good as the gear you use! Be sure to invest in a quality pair of goggles that fit you well. Try before you buy! Everybody has different facial features, so what may fit your friend well might be too tight or loose on you.
Hydrate
Swimming is refreshing, even though it is quite an intense exercise. Because of this, you may find yourself forgetting to drink plenty of water. Unfortunately, this can hurt your progress. You cannot push yourself to the max if you are not taking the time to refuel and hydrate, after all.
Complimentary Training
If you are unhappy with your form in the pool, there are a number of things that you can do to change that. For example, if you notice that your flexibility is not up to par, you may want to incorporate some yoga or Pilates into your training routine. It is also important to stretch well before and after swimming practice to keep your muscles loose and limber.
What happens if the winter chill is making it impossible for you to continue your training consistently? You visit a health or sports club with an enclosed pool to do laps in perfect conditions – no matter the weather outside!
